We take community very seriously here at Wholesome Harvest Food Co-op. As a community-owned business, we couldn't exist without the support of each and every one of our member-owners, customers, farmers, volunteers, and employees. We value the connections we make every day with Allegany County, the Appalachian region, and the people who live here. So, thank you for visiting our site, and for getting involved. We are excited to work with you.

2022-2024 Kitchen Incubator Project
In keeping with our mission to generate revenue streams for our local economy, WHFC introduced the Small Food Business Kitchen Incubator Program in January 2022 as an opportunity for up-and-coming food businesses in the Western Maryland region who do not yet have a commercial kitchen space of their own to grow their business. With support from the USDA Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP) grant awarded to WHFC in 2021, this program provided new food entrepreneurs with access to commercial kitchen space that meets health department standards, educational resources and tools for lasting success, a broadened market of consumers, and locally, ethically, and sustainably sourced ingredients. Through the program, we were able to assist two start-up businesses in growing their business as a whole as well as provide others with consultations and connections with external resources. While the Kitchen Incubator Project ended in 2025 due to limited resources, we hope to explore future opportunities to continue to support the expansion of our local food system and neighboring businesses.
At WHFC, we strive to provide opportunities for every need in our community in compliance with all Allegany County Health Department (ACHD) regulations. We are proud to work closely with the ACHD to ensure all programs conducted by and in our community kitchen observe legal health and food safety practices. For questions about our community kitchen, please contact our Kitchen Coordinator.
Karlee (owner) began Charcuterie by Kar as a side project by offering her skills to friends and family during COVID. Through use of the Kitchen Incubator Program from 2022-2023, Karlee was able to expand her customer base and even host a series of classes. Karlee is currently taking a break from charcuterie to focus on her new spouse and her career as a child speech pathologist.
AJ's Cookie Jar (formerly Macarons by Ashley) is owned and operated by Ashley Emerick. By participating in the Kitchen Incubator Program from Summer 2022 - Fall 2023, Ashley was able to work on her business full time and accelerate the opening of her brick and mortar store located at 118 Baltimore St. Cumberland, MD located inside the recently renovated Rosembaum building. We are thrilled to maintain a continued partnership with AJ's Cookie Jar by carrying their products in our store.
