WHFC is Seeking Additional Board Members

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the resignation of both Andrea Greise as Board President and Erin Bishop as Board Secretary.  We extend our sincere gratitude for their hard work and dedication and respect for their decisions.

With their departure, two positions on our Board of Directors have become available. To fill these vacancies, the Board of Directors has decided to hold a special election from April 18th to May 9th, 2025. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on the Board, please submit your nominations here or during your next visit to our store before April 16th, 2025.  Nominations are open to all active member-owners; however, we are particularly seeking individuals whose skills and backgrounds align with our current needs in areas such as communications, community engagement, finance, business management, and more.

Join Our Board of Directors

To be eligible, all nominees must be active member-owners of WHFC. Board members are required to attend at least one executive meeting each month and up to four Quarterly Report meetings annually. While the total time commitment may fluctuate depending on the organization’s needs, most board members should be prepared to dedicate 4 to 6 hours per month.

Harold Taylor moved to Frostburg where he graduated with a BA in English in 1990. Harold first started cooking and gardening at age five. Growing up, he enjoyed exploring the ethnic restaurants of the D.C. area and trying to recreate their cuisine. Indeed, it was this passion for vegetarian and ethnic cuisine that led Harold and like minded friends to Gandalf’s Bar and Restaurant, a cooperatively owned restaurant specializing in organic and locally grown whole foods, vegetarian, and ethnic cuisines. Harold served as President at Gandalf’s from 1996-2003. With his extensive background in the cooperative business style and passion for local and sustainable food, Harold was initially drawn to WHFC as a volunteer on the Finance Committee before becoming our Director of Finance at the end of 2022 and eventually stepping into the role of General Manager in 2023. Harold has served on our Board of Directors since Spring of 2023. He also works as administrator of Savage Mountain Punk Arts. When not at work Harold spends his time translating Slavic, Baltic, and Celtic folklore into English, biking, x-c skiing, foraging for mushrooms and fruit, gardening & cooking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us if you cannot find the answer to your question!

A co-op, or cooperative, is a business which is owned and operated by its members. We call our members “member-owners” because by being a member, you become a stakeholder in our organization. A stakeholder is a member of a group without whose support the organization would cease to exist. So each and every one of our member-owners influences the products that we carry, impacts our community of farmers and producers and contributes to the success of the co-op.

No, you do not have to be a member to shop! Our store is open to the public.

We carry a variety of wellness foods and products including organic, locally produced, sustainably and ethically sourced foods; bulk nuts, seeds, grains, and spices; specialty gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian products; local consignment; and more.

We are located at 30 W. Main St. on the corner of Main St. and Water St. in Frostburg, MD.
